What is CARTE?

CARTE is a decentralized digital collecting card platform developed by Manifold that bridges the gap between traditional art and blockchain technology. It allows users to reserve and purchase card packs featuring licensed artwork created by real human artists, ensuring that creators are fairly compensated through direct sales and ongoing royalties. The project's mission is to provide a curated, high-quality NFT experience that prioritizes artistic integrity and collector engagement over speculative trading.

How Does CARTE Work?

The platform operates by allowing users to join waitlists for specific artist 'drops.' Once a pack is reserved and opened, the underlying technology—built on the Ethereum ecosystem—utilizes smart contracts to mint the chosen digital card as a unique NFT. Users typically choose one of several cards in a pack, while the remaining ones are 'burned' or discarded, ensuring scarcity. The ownership record and provenance of each card are permanently stored on the blockchain, allowing for transparent peer-to-peer trading.

What Makes CARTE Unique?

CARTE distinguishes itself by its 'Human-Centric' approach, strictly featuring artwork from human artists rather than AI-generated content. It introduces a unique 'choice' mechanic in pack opening, where collectors decide which specific piece of art to keep, adding a layer of gamification and personal investment. Furthermore, it integrates a seamless royalty system that automatically distributes a portion of secondary market sales back to the original creators, fostering a sustainable ecosystem for digital fine art.

Who Are the Founders of CARTE?

CARTE is spearheaded by the team at Manifold, a leading NFT infrastructure company known for creating creator-owned smart contracts. The key figures include Eric Diep (Co-founder) and Rich Chen (Co-founder), both of whom have extensive backgrounds in technology and blockchain engineering. Their expertise lies in developing tools that empower artists to maintain control over their digital assets and minting processes, a philosophy that is central to the CARTE platform.
