What is Elektron?

Elektron (primarily known as Elektron Energy) is a high-performance Bitcoin mining management and infrastructure company that operates as a key strategic partner for Tether. Originally spun off from Swan Bitcoin's mining division in early 2025, the project focuses on industrial-scale Proof-of-Work (PoW) operations. Its mission is to secure the Bitcoin network by converting capital and energy into hashrate with institutional discipline and a first-principles approach to mining economics.

How Does Elektron Work?

Elektron operates by managing a massive global portfolio of Bitcoin mining assets, including over 200,000 ASICs across more than 30 sites in five countries. The technology involves an 'asset-light' build-out model that scales rapidly by leveraging strategic capital. Operationally, it functions as a flexible grid load, transforming surplus or underutilized energy into productive Bitcoin output, thereby optimizing energy systems and supporting grid stability through continuous PoW validation.

What Makes Elektron Unique?

Elektron is unique for its massive scale and institutional backing, managing approximately 50 EH/s of hashrate for Tether, making it one of the largest mining entities globally. Unlike traditional miners that focus solely on production targets, Elektron prioritizes 'energy transformation'—acting as a buyer of last resort for stranded energy. Its lean organizational structure (maintaining very low staff costs relative to hashrate) and its avoidance of excessive leverage allow it to remain resilient through volatile market cycles.

Who Are the Founders of Elektron?

Elektron Energy was founded by Rapha Zagury (CEO) and San Naidoo (President). Rapha Zagury is a former Wall Street executive with senior roles at Deutsche Bank, Merrill Lynch, and Goldman Sachs, and previously served as the CIO of Swan Bitcoin. San Naidoo brings extensive experience in Bitcoin mining infrastructure and large-scale operations. The team is further supported by strategic oversight and capital from Tether executives, including Paolo Ardoino and Giancarlo Devasini.

What Key Events Have There Been for Elektron?

The most significant event for Elektron was its spin-off from Swan Bitcoin in 2025 and its subsequent partnership with Tether to manage a 50 EH/s mining portfolio. Recently, Elektron has been featured in major industry discussions regarding the 'bifurcation' of the energy market between AI/High-Performance Computing and Bitcoin mining. The company also reached a milestone of operating across 32 global sites, establishing itself as a top-tier global hashrate provider.

Project Announcements

Elektron recently announced its continued expansion into greenfield sites and its strategy to double down on Bitcoin hashrate while other industry players pivot toward AI data centers. The leadership frequently provides updates via industry podcasts like The Blockspace Pod, focusing on capital efficiency and the long-term sustainability of the PoW model.
