Foster is a blockchain-based initiative launched by the Swiss company TRES Group GmbH, designed to combat climate change through tokenized reforestation. The project leverages blockchain technology to facilitate mass tree planting and global carbon dioxide absorption, allowing participants to directly contribute to environmental sustainability by owning digital representations of physical trees.
How Does Foster Work?
The ecosystem operates by issuing FOSTER tokens, where each token represents a specific tree planted in one of several selected countries. The project manages the entire lifecycle, from land acquisition and preparation to planting and certification. Revenue is generated through the development of biomass and the trading of CO2 credits on international markets, providing a transparent link between token ownership and ecological impact.
What Makes Foster Unique?
Foster stands out by democratizing participation in climate action. Unlike traditional carbon offset programs, it enables individual ownership of trees through tokens, creating a direct economic incentive for local communities to preserve forests rather than engage in deforestation. It effectively merges environmental conservation with decentralized finance (DeFi) to create a sustainable revenue model from carbon credits.
Who Are the Founders of Foster?
The Foster project was established by TRES Group GmbH, a Swiss-based firm specializing in innovative blockchain solutions. The leadership team, including key figures like Brian Foster (who has a strong background in computer science and financial engineering), brings expertise from both traditional finance and early blockchain ventures to ensure institutional-grade execution of environmental projects.
