Onyx Odds is a premium social sportsbook and sweepstakes gaming platform designed to offer a mobile-first, free-to-play sports prediction experience. Launched in 2024, the project aims to carve out a niche in the online gaming market by providing a sleek, intuitive alternative to traditional sportsbooks. Its mission is to democratize sports betting through a legal, sweepstakes-based model where users can engage with major American sports leagues like the NFL, NBA, and NHL without risking real money upfront.
How Does Onyx Odds Work?
The platform operates using a dual-currency system: Onyx Coins and Onyx Cash. Onyx Coins are used for 'Standard Play' and are purely for entertainment with no real-world value. Onyx Cash, on the other hand, is a sweepstakes currency that can be earned through promotions, bonuses, or as part of coin purchases. When users place successful sports picks using Onyx Cash, they can accumulate enough to redeem for real-life prizes and cash redemptions, typically requiring a 1x playthrough.
What Makes Onyx Odds Unique?
Onyx Odds distinguishes itself through its modular technology and streamlined user interface that focuses on 'Quality over Quantity.' Unlike many competitors that clutter the screen with hundreds of niche events, Onyx Odds prioritizes the most liquid and popular markets with highly competitive 5% margins. Key features include a dedicated loyalty program that rewards consistent gameplay with VIP status, a robust mobile-optimized web experience that requires no app store downloads, and a secure infrastructure utilizing SSL encryption to ensure player safety.
Who Are the Founders of Onyx Odds?
Onyx Odds was founded by a team of fintech and gaming veterans, including Greg Newman (CEO) and Omar Kayaam (CIO). Both founders have extensive backgrounds in high-stakes financial trading, having previously served as senior leaders at Mandara Capital where they specialized in oil derivatives and market making. Their expertise in risk management, trading technology, and scaling elite financial teams has been transitioned into the sports prediction space to build a high-performance gaming ecosystem.
